Generic Events and the City of Santa Monica are "working smarter"! With the help of Performance Bike Shops near the Promenade, we are very pleased to offer a way for Santa Monica 5000 runners to get to the Start Line WITHOUT having to drive, park, or wait in lines to get parked.

Drive your bike (safely) down to the Start area and look for the Performance Bike Tent, and all the Bike racks.. Leave your whip with them, while you go run the race, and then when you're done on the Pier.. just walk the short distance back to the race start area, and grab your wheels back - free of charge!!

Performance Bike Shops will be there in order to provide and little services you might need, offer advice and provide a little pre-race "support".

So warm those legs up next Sunday morning by biking down to the Start, and give your adult wheels (and your pocket books) a break!

Which category are you in?
We're offering different categories for all type of runners. Choose between Age Group (most of us), Elite (those really fast people), and the Baby Jogger Division (bring out your baby and spend the day with other parents). There is no minimum age for the babies (but doctors recommend waiting to run until they can hold their head up).

The start will be sectioned off by each wave starting with the Elites / Age Groupers / Youth / Baby Joggers. And with chip timing, your time doesn't start until you cross the starting line!

The 3k Family Dash is for the entire family - come one and all. Run/Walk with the little ones and bigger ones! Everyone (sans the little ones in a stroller) must register!

Can a race be fairly flat, fast and very fun? It is at the Lexus Santa Monica 5000. The start is at the beach in Ocean Park. Runners head south on Barnard Way and curve onto Main Street and head north to Colorado Ave. Runners then head west to Ocean Ave. At this point the runners turn north for some of most scenic views of Santa Monica and the beaches. The 5k turns around at Washington Ave. (just north of Wilshire) for a gradual descent to the finish which is just before the Santa Monica Pier (the site of the Health & Fitness Festival and Party). The 10k goes up to San Vicente and turns around at 11th St. Yes, the course is USATF sanctioned and certified. There will also be water stations at the Start, Finish and along both courses. Don't forget, the 5k starts @ 8:00am and the 10k starts at 8:30am!

The normal Pier operations will also be going on, so feel free to buy a ticket for a great Ferris wheel ride!

The Santa Monica 5000 is part of the 2012 Southern California Association USA Track and Field Road Running Grand Prix Series. The big prize for the Road Running Grand Prix is the $2,000 in prize money. And the SM 5000 will be the last chance for the 5k runners to gain points.

This is official USATF California Association 5 km Championships race! To score points in the 2013 Road Running Grand Prix, runners MUST compete in the 5 km race!

USATF will award gold, silver and bronze medals to the top open (19-39) and masters (40+) USA Track & Field runners. And the gold medal winners in the open and masters divisions will receive a USA Track & Field Varsity Revolution gymsack.

USATF will also acknowledge and award medals to the top five finishers in the age groups 11 and younger, and 12 – 13. These youth runners do not need to be members of USATF to get these medals.

Check out http://www.scagrandprix.org for more info!

Yes, both the 5k and 10k are USATF Measured and Sanctioned! This means the course is actually 5k and 10k (no more and no less!).

Custom Awards will be given to the top 3 in each age group at both the 5k and 10k. Age group/ Divisions are: 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+, Baby Jogger, Men’s Elite, Women’s Elite.

Directions & Parking at the Race Start
The race is a point to point race!! This means the start and finish are in two different locations.

The start is located just south of the intersection of Barnard Way and Ocean Park Blvd. This is just south of Pico Blvd and approximately 1⁄2 mile from the 10 Freeway and PCH. There are 3 main parking lots in close proximity to the race site. The main lot is located just south of Pico Blvd. and can only be entered going south on Barnard Way. Turn into the lot and proceed south to the end of the lot and the race site.

From the 10 - exit 4th Street and turn left (South). Turn right (West) on Pico Blvd. At the intersection of Pico and Ocean/Neilson Way, turn left onto Barnard Way (note, this is an awkward left turn - so pay attention). If you miss this turn, follow Neilson Way to Ocean Park Blvd. and turn left onto Barnard Way and then turn right into the parking lot.

Support your friends and cheer them on!
Volunteers are integral and crucial elements in making our events viable. Volunteer tasks include, among others: providing aid, water and food, keeping runners on course, cheering runners on and keeping spirits up. They are also there to have fun and enjoy the experience of the race from a different perspective. And most importantly, they make the race safer for everyone involved! You've probably seen and thanked many volunteers at past events, but what better way to say thanks and give back than to be a volunteer yourself? After your experience, you will appreciate the volunteers at future events that much more! In exchange you'll get a goody bag and refreshments and more importantly, you will be rewarded with the pride in knowing you helped to make the event happen, and that many runners finished because of the help you offered. If you'd like to volunteer or need more information, please contact us at 310.821.7898 or send an email to info@genericevents.com!

Registration Policies:
Generic Events does not authorize refunds at any time, NO EXCEPTIONS. However, we do allow participants to cancel their entry and receive a 60% credit to apply toward another event owned and managed by Generic Events, or another person up until 14 days prior to their registered event. These events include: Santa Monica 5000, Santa Monica Gobble Wobble, Pasadena Triathlon and XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series.

Transfer / Cancellation Instructions:
Canceling on imATHLETE is super-easy.  Just follow the four fun steps:
1. Go here:  http://www.imATHLETE.com/events/EditReg/EditReg_EditRegistration.aspx
2. Enter your confirmation code (on the top of your emailed receipt)
3. Click "Cancel"
4. Follow the rest of the instructions

You will get a discount code automatically sent to you that you can then apply to any other of Generic Events' events during the same calendar year.

Race Conduct - We will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior to any of our volunteers or staff. If you have a complaint please direct these to Brennan Lindner at info@genericevents.com. Failure to follow this guideline will result in disqualification from the event and possibly being banned from future events. Seriously. We're all out here for some fun, so let's have some!

Natural Disaster Policy - If an Act of God/Terrorism/Community Disaster occurs, what happens?
1. We make decisions based on safety first.
2. The municipality will also make a decision.
3. Race courses and race date will be altered as seen fit by race management and the City of Santa Monica.
4. Athletes in a postponed race will be transferred to the rescheduled date at no charge.
5. Generic Events cannot accept the risk of a disaster for everyone. Each athlete needs to accept the risk of his or her entry fee. There will be NO REFUNDS. The money you paid is spent developing that race.

Why? We do not save any money if the race is postponed or you choose not run. We have paid for every supply and service needed for that race. We pay for all race supplies or services associated with that race, regardless of the outcome. These include paying for permits, our staff, offices, administration costs all year. It's not ideal, and nobody likes wasting money, but we unfortunately cannot predict what will happen on race day.
