Which category are you in?
We're offering different categories for all type
of runners. Choose between Age Group (most of us), Elite (those
really fast people), and
the Baby Jogger Division (bring out your baby and spend the day
with other parents). There is no minimum age for the babies (but
doctors recommend waiting to run until they can hold their head
up).
The start will be sectioned off by each wave
starting with the Elites / Age Groupers / Youth / Baby Joggers.
And with chip timing, your time doesn't start until you cross the
starting line!
The 2.7k Youth is for ages 6 to 12 only! It's 1/2 of the 5k course and a total blast!

Can a race be fairly flat, fast and very fun?
It is at the Lexus Santa Monica 5000. The start is at the beach in Ocean Park. Runners head south on Barnard
Way and curve onto Main Street and head north to Colorado Ave. Runners
then head west to Ocean Ave. At this point the runners turn north
for some of most scenic views of Santa Monica and the beaches. The
5k turns around at Washington Ave. (just north of Wilshire) for a
gradual descent to the finish which is just before the Santa Monica
Pier (the site of the Health & Fitness Festival and Party). The 10k goes up
to San Vicente and turns around at 11th St. Yes, the course is USATF
sanctioned and certified. There will also be water stations at the
Start, Finish and along both courses. Don't forget, the 5k starts @ 7:30am and the 10k starts at 8:00am!

The Santa Monica 5000 is part of the 2011 Southern California Association USA Track and Field Road Running Grand Prix Series. The big prize for the Road Running Grand Prix is the $2,000 in prize money. And the SM 5000 will be the last chance for shorter distance runners to gain points.
USATF will award gold, silver and bronze medals to the top open (19-39) and masters (40+) USA Track & Field runners. And the gold medal winners in the open and masters divisions will receive a USA Track & Field Varsity Revolution gymsack.
USATF will also acknowledge and award medals to the top five finishers in the age groups 11 and younger, and 12 – 13. These youth runners do not need to be members of USATF to get these medals.
Check out http://www.scagrandprix.org for more info!

Directions & Parking at the Race Start
The race is a point to point race!! This means
the start and finish are in two different locations.
The start is located just south of the intersection
of Barnard Way and Ocean Park Blvd. This is just south of Pico Blvd
and approximately 1⁄2 mile from the 10 Freeway and PCH. There
are 3 main parking lots in close proximity to the race site. The
main lot is located just south of Pico Blvd. and can only be entered
going south on Barnard Way. Turn into the lot and proceed south
to the end of the lot and the race site.
From the 10 - exit 4th Street and turn left
(South). Turn right (West) on Pico Blvd. At the intersection of
Pico and Ocean/Neilson Way, turn left onto Barnard Way (note, this
is an awkward left turn - so pay attention). If you miss this turn,
follow Neilson Way to Ocean Park Blvd. and turn left onto Barnard
Way and then turn right into the parking lot.

Directions & Parking at the Race Finish
& Event Expo
The race finish is just north of Santa Monica
Pier at the intersection of Ocean Ave. and Broadway. There is plenty
of parking on 2nd Street just east of the finish. There is also
plenty of parking beneath the Pier on the beach, this can be accessed
from Interstate 10/PCH or Ocean Ave, just south of Colorado.

Support your friends and cheer them on!
Volunteers are integral and crucial elements in
making our events viable. Volunteer tasks include, among others: providing
aid, water and food, keeping runners on course, cheering runners on
and keeping spirits up. They are also there to have fun and enjoy
the experience of the race from a different perspective. And most
importantly, they make the race safer for everyone involved! You've
probably seen and thanked many volunteers at past events, but what
better way to say thanks and give back than to be a volunteer yourself?
After your experience, you will appreciate the volunteers at future
events that much more! In exchange you'll get a goody bag and refreshments
and more importantly, you will be rewarded with the pride in knowing
you helped to make the event happen, and that many runners finished
because of the help you offered. If you'd like to volunteer or need
more information, please contact us at 310.821.7898 or send an email
to info@genericevents.com!
